Never rock climbed before?  Here are some good tips to know before you climb for the first time at Summit Climbing Gym:

  • All climbers need a release form signed before climbing.  For those under 18, the form needs to be signed  by their parent.  Release forms may not be signed by another relative or any adult other than the child's parent.
  • What to wear:  be comfortable!  Wear shorts or loose fitting pants, a t-shirt and tennis shoes.  If you have long hair, it's a good idea to wear a pony tail.
  • What to bring:  we offer snacks and drinks for sale, but feel free to bring a water bottle and your own power bar for extra energy while climbing.
  • How does it work:  The first time you come in, we will give you basic safety training.  We'll show you how to put on a harness, how to work the ropes (belaying) and the commands used while climbing.  After this training, you are ready to climb!
  • How old do I need to be:  Anyone 5 or older can climb at Summit.  If you are 14 or older, you can learn to climb and belay your first time in.  People 12-13 years old are allowed to belay after successfully completing our Basic Climbing Class (see Instruction).  People under 12 need an adult to belay them.
  • You can climb as long as you like and even leave (get your hand stamped) and come back later in the day.
  • If you want to take a break, we have very comfortable leather couches.
  • Climbing at Summit is an awesome experience.  It's adventurous, fun and great exercise!
  • We are very customer orientated and are open to your comments & suggestions.
  • If you're like most people who come in to climb for the first time, you may become "hooked" and can't wait to come back and climb again soon.  For the best deals for climbers that come to Summit often, check out our Memberships.
